The Chronicles of Aurélie: Mary Fee, an assertive Gaillarde! No fuss

Chronicles back to the future::: La Gaillarde celebrates 10 years!

" This is not the end. It's not even the beginning of the end. But perhaps the end of the beginning . Winston Churchill (Thanks friend!)

Here summarizing the mood of the Gaillarde entering its 2 nd decade (11 years!) With a new shop, men who are exposed, new designs and eco- Vintage sacrosanct, master of time and space!

Already 10 years! Who had believed?
Defying skeptics of all kinds, financial statements and moves, the Gaillarde is still very much present, and as beautiful as ever! For realizing it, I suggest you go back in time during a series of 9 chronic, leading to our next event, a major retrospective in honor of the last 10 years. Each week I will introduce the pioneers of this unusual shop that made the Gaillarde what it is today!

"Hey! Doc! Fee is Mary! "
At the wheel of my Delorean, I meet Mary Fee, former" designer "line Gaillarde and so much more ...

Mary Fee - Parade La Gaillarde

Fresh out of studying fashion design, Mary is hired (2001) by creating Gaillarde a line of clothing and accessories from reclaimed textiles. At the time, La Gaillarde is at 3981 Notre Dame, and takes its name from its primary mission: to help former prisoners reintegrate into society. Josée Martel, director of the time, leads, in collaboration RESO with the redefinition of the mission: galliards released from prison, become galliards returning the concept of environmental sustainability and solidarity in the consumer society. Let me tell you that at the time they were considered primarily as galliards aliens!

But too bad for the skeptics! Galliards believe in their project! " was the right place and right time! The shop was located in a rapidly developing. We opened the Lachine Canal, groceries and opened lots of new people came there to rent apartments .

course was not easy ... galliard " had to manage the tons of donated clothing that we recover. Sort them, put price, get the tissues to make reuse of creation, give or sell them to some eco-designers who began to point their nose. "All this in a basement with no windows! Gaillard, Mary!

Where is Mary? Looking at the through the tons of clothes, interns and volunteers!
" At the time we were called designers valores. There were several levels of recycling. You could simply ornamentation - integrate recycled materials as ornaments for new fabrics - make "retail" - assemble the fabrics recycled into a new one - or go-between ".

Eco-design is born with its strengths and limitations ...
" I really enjoyed creating with a constraint. When you work with tissue recovered, you go to a constraint, an item that already exists, you're going to rework or develop. It avoids the syndrome of the blank page! The most fascinating is that a default on an old garment can become a real quality in another creation ! "

" My goal was also a return line Gaillarde. I created accessories chain, such as mats, hats and scarves are easy to do, we claimed after the store or other retail outlets . "

Technician, Mary becomes much more than a means, as all those who are lucky enough to go through the Gaillarde. It participates in the 4019 move to Notre Dame, current location of the shop. Of scissors, it goes to blows with paintings and other hand blows management that each board member must take.

"We all had this strong desire to combine our forces so that the shop became a benchmark in eco-design! Moreover, the shop now has the same spirit it had 10 years ago. It is a shop that is close to its clients, designers and has the same desire to move to mounting strength of elbow grease! "

" I greatly admire the work of Annie and employees today, because through them the Gaillarde became what we always wanted that it is! I'm really proud of what came to do, and I'm sure that 10 years later, we still reach our goals! "

You'll understand, Gaillarde had many" lucky stars "who made it grow and have even saved on several occasions! Mary Fee, is one of those people who have spoiled the store, protect, and allow it to be what it is today. On behalf of all Gaillardes: THANKS MARY!

And like Mary still has a lot to you say, she will attend the birthday party of 10 years of Gaillarde for a speech. An event NOT TO BE MISSED! More info on the Facebook page here

With those few words full of emotions, I'll be back next week with another good star!

Great Scott!
